British automaker, Land Rover is attempting to ease some of the pain of the Eurozone crisis by adding 1,000 new jobs to its Solihull production plant in English Midlands. This latest initiative comes as a part of its company's plan to bring an astonishing total of 40 new products to the market within the next five years, so it only makes sense that the company's main factory would need an larger workforce.

Unfortunately, Land Rover has not yet disclosed exactly what these 40 new products are. They could be new models, new technologies, or a series of aftermarket parts, but we'll likely have to wait for upcoming events like the Tokyo Motor Show and the Detroit International Auto show to learn more.

What is clear, however, is the positive impact that this new announcement has had on the economy, especially considering the fact that the plant once faced closure in 2009. British Business Secretary, Vince Cable points out that the plant "is now expanding and has ambitious production plans,"¹ while also noting that "there is a lot of investment taking place particularly in the car industry and the supply chain."²

Currently, the Land Rover Solihull plant employs around 5,000 workers, and the company is reportedly investing £1.1-billion ($1.7-billion) in the plant's infrastructure and workforce. This not only equates to new equipment and employees, but also increased compensation for current workers. As JLR Human Resources Director, Des Thurlby puts it, "These jobs are well paid with great benefits. We expect to receive many thousands of applications."³
